Borrowing privileges at Columbia
"For faculty spending time in New York for the summer or a sabbatic as I have been, privileges at Columbia’s Butler Library are an incredible resource. Columbia faculty who want to spend the summer in Ithaca should definitely know about this program too, and I’m telling everyone I know."
- Jeffrey Rusten, director of Undergraduate Studies in the Classics Department
Communications databases
"I listen to a lot of the presentations from librarians in classes about the communications databases, and it's great that we have all these databases without having to find articles on our own. The search tools work so much better when you know how to use them."
- Savannah Johnson '13

Archival collections
I’ve been using the archives a lot recently for my video work. We've wanted to compare the past with the present, through both video and stills, and the collections are amazing. I've also donated things myself — it's really exciting to feel like I'm part of the archive now.
- Deborah Hoard, MPS '78
Archival newspapers
"You can get newspapers the whole way back to the 1800s, and I use them both for research and just to look at for fun, to see what was happening in other times. I even found an article about the independence of my country, Tanzania, in a 1961 issue of the 'New York Times.'"

Social spaces in Olin
"I normally use the library to socialize; I like to meet people here. Olin especially is centrally located, so it's convenient for everyone."
- Ashwathi Iyer '13, Engineering

Browsing in the Fine Arts Library
"I love the fact that the library allows people to browse and get in touch with artists they wouldn't usually find. You can discover new names and notice things that you never would have before."
- Allie Riggs '13

Map collection
"I'm a freshman, so I'm new here, but what I've learned so far is that Olin has one of the best map collections in the country."
- Alex Neuber '14

Individual study rooms in Mann
"A study room is a nice, cozy, compact environment that's perfect for getting your work done without distractions. It's like your own personal library."
- George Osae '11, CALS

Extensive resources
"As someone who listens to 'Fresh Air' on NPR, what I love about the library is that every time I hear an author or a book that I'm interested in, I can get it right away -- either here in the library, or from Borrow Direct or Interlibrary Loan. The library provides immediate gratification."
- Barbara Berger Eden, Director of Preservation and Collection Management
Olin Media Center
"Did you know that you can take microforms, microfilm, microfiche and microprint and read, print, scan or e-mail them to yourself -- all from Olin's Media Center? We offer photomicrographic machines that can creat PDFs directly, and printing costs money but the scanning is free."
- Suzanne Schwartz, Olin Media Student Supervisor
