Research guide on Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Brenda: "Cornell has one of the oldest Women's Studies programs in the country, and the research is interdisciplinary. This guide is a big help."

Michael: "Exactly -- it aids researchers at the start of their work and leads them through the rich reference resources and primary sources available through the Library on this subject."

RefShare

“We wouldn’t be able to do [our project] the same way without RefShare. We can now provide the users of canDL, the child abuse and neglect Digital Library, tailored lists of references with links to full-text.”

Olin study spaces

"I love the energy on the first floor of Olin. There's something about being surrounded by all these people working so hard on their various projects -- the collective brain energy makes me feel more productive and focused."

Beyond the Taj collection

"Open up 'Beyond the Taj' and dive into the colorful, diverse environment of India and Sri Lanka. We now have a cool visual tool with which to explore the architecture, pilgrimage sites and domestic life of South Asia. Check out images of festivals and ceremonies such as the Chithrai Festival, the Ratha Yatra (Car) Festival, the Firewalking Ceremony and the Foundation Ceremony.

Research help via IM

"Did you know you can get library research help via IM? Cornell's Ask a Librarian chat service is amazing. Not only will we answer almost instantly (10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday), we can even find things online that will show up on your own screen.

Book Collection Contest

"Just a few of the things that resulted from my entering the Library's Book Collection Contest: getting to meet fascinating authors, rare book dealers and major collectors; receiving free books, passes to book conventions and exhibitions and a membership in America’s most prestigious book society; a round-trip flight across the country; a party at an exclusive club in New York City; and even st

Online databases

“I love that I have easy online access to databases through the Library’s Web site – especially PubMed and Web of Science, which I use for my research on behavioral variations in crickets. I can search for journal articles wherever I am, from home or on campus.

Librarian office hours

“If you have an in-depth, detailed question, you can go to one of the offices and have one-on-one time with a librarian – and if you need specific resources, they’ll help you directly without you having to try to figure it out on your own. It really saves time. Librarians have a lot of knowledge about the databases and resources we have, and they know what will be best to help.”

PDF scanner in Mann

“In the rare event that the Library doesn’t have the online edition of a journal I need, I try to find the hard copy of the article and then use the scanner in Mann to create a PDF. It’s easy to use and I don’t have to print it off, so I save money and time.

Current periodicals

“With Web-based search engines, there’s a tendency to focus on one small area of scholarship in your research. But if you come to the current periodicals section, you have an array of materials you might not otherwise look at and is easily accessible. It could also introduce you to journals you might not otherwise see, so then you can investigate further.”
