View from the seventh floor of Olin Library

Principles guiding Olin renovation planning:

  1. Consider the use of all of Olin--and other library spaces--in planning for floors 3-7.
  2. Focus on space, services, and collections that support the humanities and social sciences as well as interdisciplinary work across the full academic spectrum.
  3. Increase and upgrade reader space, differentiating between individual and group study areas, open seating, collaborative facilities, technology support, and private offices.
  4. Allocate space occupancy based on current use and need, not rank or longevity.
  5. Create inspirational space that takes advantage of the beautiful views, particularly on floors 6 and 7.
  6. Maintain collections on campus necessary for current research, teaching, and learning needs.
  7. Acknowledge the importance of technology and computing in learning, study, research, and scholarship. Provide appropriate support, connectivity, hardware, and software.
  8. Build in flexibility in the construction and furnishings to accommodate change in teaching, learning, research trends, user behavior, and university priorities.
  9. Support the full scholarly continuum, from formulation to discovery, access, use, writing, dissemination, review, publication, revision, and preservation.
