The CD-ROMs listed below are available for in-house use on the CD-ROM station in the Africana Library.
Black Studies On Disc
Information on materials by and about African Americans, Africa and peoples of African ancestry. Includes catalog of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and citations from the Index to Black periodicals, 1989-present.
African-American Culture and History
Contains full text of the five-volume Encyclopedia of African-American Culture and History, newly revised and updated for electronic publication. Over 250 articles and many appendices have been revised, and more than 30 new articles have been added.
The Art of Ife: A Descriptive Catalogue and Database
This CD-ROM is based on the records made by Frank Willett over a period of forty years and catalogues all the works of Ife art from Nigerian museums and from museum and private collections in Europe and the U.S.A. Includes descriptions of archaeological investigations that have been conducted in Ife since 1910, drawing on unpublished records, and text devoted to the history of archaeology in Ife, evidence for dating, technique of casting, composition of metals used and the social role of the sculpture and the hands of the artists. This is a comprehensive database permitting detailed searches and links the 340,000 words of text and the 2,200 illustrations.
The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade
Contains records of 27,233 trans-Atlantic slave ship voyages made between 1595 and 1866. Format allows users to track information by time period and geographic region, and includes interactive maps that allow viewers to chart the trans-Atlantic connections. The accompanying data contains materials about people on board, owners and captains, ships' characteristics, and the geographic trajectory of each voyage. Booklet included.
Apartheid & The History of the Struggle for Freedom in South Africa
Consists of forty-eight titles on the history of freedom on South Africa, such as the speeches of Mandela and Luthuli and a pictorial history of the ANC.
Scribner American History and Culture
This database contains more than 7,200 articles on key events and concepts in American history as well as in-dept examination of all presidential administration and selected biographies of other notable Americans.
