I use Net-Print with the laptops? Log on to www.cit.cornell.edu/net-print What do I do if the screen freezes? Wait a few minutes. If the screen is still frozen, try holding down the power button. If this does not work, save your work to Thawspace and then reboot the computer. What do I do if I get a message that says something is not recognized? Try pushing the floppy or DVD drive in -- it might not be clicked in all the way. If this does not work, try rebooting the computer. What do I do if I try to empty the recycling bin and the computer says that emptying the recycling bin will cause something not to work? Empty the recycling bin anyway and then try rebooting. Everything that is preloaded on the computers will be saved. It just means someone had installed something additional on the computer that is not needed. What do I do if I hear a beeping sound? The beeping sound means the battery is getting low. Save your work to Thawspace, shut down the computer, and go to the Africana circulation desk to check out a power cord. The laptop seems really slow. How can I speed things up? By design, these laptops are somewhat slower than one might like. It's also possible that this may mean the battery is low. Using a power cord may give you a bit more speed. How can I tell the wireless connectivity strength within a particular part of the library? The bottom toolbar has a connection strength icon (it looks like a set of green stairs). If you double click on that icon, you will be given a radio connection strength. Typically the strength is strongest in the open areas of the library and weakest in the stack areas. What do I do if there are empty icons on the bottom of the screen? Try clicking on the empty icons. This should make them go away. Who do I contact if I am having problems with a particular program on the laptop? You should contact someone in the ciculation desk of Africana Library.
