Happy 10th birthday, chat reference!

This spring marks the 10th year of Cornell University Library's chat reference service. The service was born in 2000; in its infancy, it was only available Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. All grown up now, we're online 24/7 with the help of our after-hours academic cooperative partners.

On Thursday, April 8, at 3 p.m., birthday parties were held at Olin's LibeCafé and in the lobby of Mann Library with cake and a chance to win a $25 gift certificate courtesy of the Campus Store!

Chat "mascots" are here to help us celebrate!

What users say about chat reference:

"got exactly what i needed quickly ... very effective and efficient service"

"Wow this is my first time using it and the librarian gave me a link to a pdf that had not just citation formats but the an example essay that pointed them out in the text. This is great!"

"I wasn't sure which library to go to or who to talk to about my question. Normally I don't have such uncommon questions, but this time I needed more specific assistance. This service helped me figure out exactly what I could do, so it saved me a lot of time and headache!! It was very helpful!"

"I thought I was going to be sitting at my computer for quite a while waiting for a response but it was almost instantaneous. I was impressed and it answered my question so I could finish my paper. Thank you for the service. It was really appreciated
."

"I love this service!"
