Rules of the contest

  • The contest is open to all undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at the Cornell University Ithaca campus.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students will be judged separately, with 1st , 2nd, and 3rd prizes awarded in each group.

  • Collections on any subject are welcome.

  • Students may submit only one collection per contest year.

  • Prize winning collections may not be resubmitted in subsequent years. And prize winning undergraduate collections cannot later be submitted in the graduate category.

  • Collections must be owned and collected by the student submitting the entry.

  • Submissions may contain up to 20 non-book items that support the book collection (e.g. photographs, manuscripts, posters, art work, multimedia (DVDs), or non-print books such as digital or audio materials).

  • There is no minimum size requirement for the collections entered in the contest, but because finalist entries will need to be portable (gathered from distant homes or carried across campus), we ask that collections be limited to a maximum of 50 titles or items, regardless of the actual size of the contestant's total collection.

  • Collections will be judged on their substance and scope, not their size, rarity, or financial value. Paperback editions, for example, may be included.

  • Contestants must be registered and their contest entries received by on Monday, March 31, 2008 at noon to be considered.

  • Contestants who are selected as finalists will be required to bring all items listed in their collection bibliography to Uris Library for final judging and for display during the contest awards reception on Monday, April 14, 2008.
