CUL Web Design Committee
Meeting 10/1/96

Minutes

Attending: Patricia O'Neill (chair), Susan Barnes, Carment Blankenship, Tony Cosgrave, Michael Engle, Barbara Prior, Nancy Skipper, Meryl White (recorder)

We looked at the renewal form. We made a few minor suggestions including spelling separate, and changing the wording to say "Cornell ID or Library Card" in all cases. Carmen asked to use Olin/Kroch (Asia) instead of listing Kroch as a service unit. We decided to add a service unit code next to each library name so that a patron could select a library based on his or her booksout screen. Next to the words "Select Library," it will say "("Booksout" code)." Susan requested that Mann Library be added to the library list. We suggested putting "for books that are checked out electronically." We also suggested adding a link to Booksout (or the Navigator screen, if necessary). Tony is waiting for the list of circ e-mail addresses. Patricia wll send a note to CU-LIB asking if the e-mail addresses listed in the Library Guide are correct. If libraries do not want to be involved in e-mail renewal, or they want to be listed on the manual renewal page, pleae contact Tony. To enter the manual renewal form, there will be some type of wording indicating that if your book does not have a bar code to click here. Carmen will work on this message and get it to Tony. We also need to see the response pages.

Tony spoke about the CGI for the library server. It is stil not working. It appears to be a configuration problem. We have been using the CGI off Mann Library's server. Tony has been working with Ben Trelease of Mann Library. Hw wondered whether Mann's server can handle the additional traffic from the Library server CGI use, and whether Ben can continue to provide us with technical support.

We looked at the recall form. We noted that it should also say ÔCornell ID or Library Card." We also considered the word "items" instead of books. We questioned whether all the buttons need to be on evey page -- and thought it might be appropriate for just Cornell University Library, Ask A Librarian, Cornell Library Catalog, and Forms & Feedback buttons to be on the bottom.

We thought about recommeding to the developers group that web pages that take a lot of staff time to develop should be monitored to see if they are getting a lot of hits.

We asked Michael to remove some items that we've already reviewed such as the Proposed Forms, Math Library Forms, Africana Library forms, Sample Fine Arts Library Renewal Form.

We reviewed the Management Library homepage. It met the general requirements.

We will look at ill, reference forms, and an addition to the required section with a statement on use of copyrighted materials, next time on 10/15/96 at 10:30am.
