Attending: Patricia O'Neill (chair), Carmen Blankenship, Tony Cosgrave, Michael Engle, Nancy Skipper, Meryl White (recorder)
Patricia spoke with Catherine Murray-Rust about the policy of reviewing sites. The policy has not changed. We will review any sites that would like our suggestions. However, sites that reside on the library server must conform to to the requirements in our guidelines.
Patricia also talked about the new logo for the Cornell University Library. There is funding for each library to work with a designer to develop a symbol (or logo) to fit in the framework of the Cornell University Library design. Libraries that would like to work with the designer will need their sites reviewed. Using the new logo, we will need to redesign the footer buttons. Also, we need the logo in a variety of sizes.
Patricia, Tony, and Paul Constantine will speak at the December 5th Academic Assembly meeting. They will talk about the work and future directions of the web committees.
The Math Library would like their site to be reviewed. They are not interested in moving to the Library server. Michael will create a link to their site from our pages for review.
The Engineering Library is working with software to place the required footers on every page. They may then be asking us for a formal review of their pages.
Tony talked about the CGI on the Library server. It is working due to his and Ben Treleases's efforts. He has linked the renewal and recall forms to it and they work. At this point they still have a plain looking response page. Tony is working on it.
Tony mentioned that the developers group was thinking about having a circulation section on the CUL homepage with links to the forms.
Tony worked on the recall form to get it to work better with the CGI. He received help Michelle Paolillo. The design group is grateful for her efforts. We also thank Carmen and Susan for their comments on the circulation forms.
Carmen pointed out that we also need a manually charged out item renewal form. In talking about it, we realized that not all libraries want manually charged out items to be renewed. Patricia will post a note to CU-LIB requesting that libraries who allow manual items to be renewed contact Tony to be included on the list.
We discussed what the response page will say. We thought it should say something like thanks for submitting this renewal request. You will receive confirmation of your renewal from the owning library soon.
Julie Copenhagen, Susan Currie, Tony, Carmen, and Nancy will be discussing ILL forms. When they are ready, we will put that form back on our agenda.
