CUL Web Design Committee
Meeting 2/24/97

Minutes

Attending: Patricia O'Neill (chair), Susuan Barnes, Tony Cosgrave, Elizabeth Fontana, Jill Powell, Laurie Ray, Nancy Skipper, Martha Walker, Suzanne Whitaker, Meryl White (recorder)

We discussed the web logos that Laurie developed based on the new CUL logo.

Elizabeth thanked us for our comments on the previous experimental logo designs. Vally Kovary, Library External Relations, felt we should use a logo as close as possible to the one the designers came up with, to create an institutional identity. Everyone agreed that the impressionistic design is a problem in the web environment. Laurie showed us a logo with a full color photograph in place of the impressionistic rendering of the Uris tower. We liked this design. We discussed the possibility of changing the design to incorporate season specific photographs.

We also liked the photo montage banner with the small version of the library logo in the center.

We looked at the button bars Laurie designed. We suggested she use a magnifying glass for the search button. We liked the filled in graphic of the CUL logo.

We discussed whether it would be a good idea to have a secure place on the server to put staff only information. We agreed that this is important. It is useful to have documents accessible to all staff members on the Web, but not available to the public.

*We should send Patricia the IP addresses of our machines.

We looked at the ILS form. We made a few comments on it. It met the design requirements. We discussed a few changes, such as using the words "not owned by Cornell" instead of "holdings." Also we asked for an additional note on that page, as well as on the policy page, that the service is available only for Cornell University faculty, staff, and students.

Next Meeting: March 3 e-mail on the Design-l list.
