We looked at the new CUL logo. The photo may be changed to reflect the seasons.
Tony mocked up a CUL homepage using the new logo in a tabular format with a color background and table of contents on the left side of the page. Some people said it looked too busy and suggested using different fonts to cut up the text. We discussed what fonts are available on client machines, and wondered whether Book Antiqua is a Win '95 option and if Pallatino was a Macintosh-only font. Someone suggested that the button bar, rather than a table of contents, could go on the logo side of the page.
We recommended using the silhouette thumb nail. We liked the way it matched the footer bar.
We like the bottom button bar. It has a cleaner look. We would like the question mark to be used for the "Ask A Librarian" button. We would like the magnifying glass to be used for the "Search" button. We would like CUinfo to be in color as it appears on the CUinfo homepage. We thought by switching the placement of the words "CUinfo and Cornell University, and by putting Cornell University in parentheses, it would make CUinfo more prominent.
We would like each button to be a separate image.
We would like a button for each library logo.
We would like a cleaner, form or envelope for the "feedback and forms" button.
Carmen mentioned that the renewal and recall forms are very popular. She also suggested putting two other circulation policies up on the web.
It will go into production. Susan Currie said that she would contact individual reference departments to make sure the ILS form is working. Once it has been used for a while, reference staff and ILS staff will have the opportunity to suggest form changes. The procedure is that the form will be e-mailed to library reference desks and then reference staff will print out the request, verify it, and campus mail it to ILS.
Nancy Skipper felt the copyright statement was too intimidating. Tony will make the font size smaller, move it to the bottom of the page, and make agreeing with it, a condition of submitting the form. We liked this revision. Susan Barnes suggested making some words on the exceptions listing in bold, such as books, Olin, Kroch, and Law.
We thought this was a simple, clear, well-designed homepage. Patricia is going to contact Amy Augustine about specific changes we would like them to make such as using Alt text for images and putting return to Admin Ops homepage, and Library Accounting, instead of return to homepage and accounting.
