CUL MISSION
Improve and enhance the quality of learning by supporting the curriculum needs for faculty and students who participate in distributed learning. Provide leadership in creation, design, use, and management of digital resources and services.

CUL Distributed Learning Advisory Committee Minutes

OBJECTIVES

  • Facilitate the development of system-wide services and programs in support of faculty and students involved in distributed learning.
  • Assess the impact of technology-mediated instruction on various library functions (e.g., collection development, access services, etc.), and identify areas for system-wide collaborations.
  • Serve as liaison between the Library and other Cornell distributed learning stakeholders, and seek out internal and external collaborations.
  • Assess faculty and student needs.
  • Promote CUL's distributed learning services and facilitate the emergence of the Library as a partner in Cornell-wide initiatives.
  • Explore the role of the library in collecting, managing, and preserving digital course materials.
  • Coordinate the development of CUL-wide policies and procedures describing the distributed learning services provided for faculty and students (e.g., services provided for different categories of students).
  • Promote and support the creation of distributed learning courses by the library staff.
  • Assess the role of Office of Distributed Learning and identify an ideal structure for distributed learning services within CUL.

WORK IN PROGRESS

  • Co-chair the campus-wide Unified Service Working Group.
  • Organize the Learning and Teaching with Technology Expo, scheduled for January 16-17, 2003.
  • Develop a collaborative model for providing copyright services, including clearance, awareness, and education.
  • Facilitate the development of a white paper to explore the challenges associated with linking CUL collections and services to CourseInfo sites.
  • Partner with CIT, Center for Learning and Teaching, and Media and Technology Services in developing the Faculty Innovation in Teaching.
  • Assess the impact of distributed learning on different functional units - identify resource needs required to assist faculty and users in this new learning environment.
  • Develop and offer programs for the library staff to enhance the understanding of distributed learning issues (e.g., open house, panel discussion, brown-bag lunches, tutorial, etc.)
  • Coordinate the development of CUL-wide procedures and guidelines for distance learner support.
  • Facilitate the development of a CUL distributed learning Web page to inform faculty of our services.
