Service Design

The unit provides support for information discovery services designed to meet the needs of the Cornell community, including the library catalog and Find it! services, the OpenURL link resolver, batch metadata processing, and remote proxy authentication. We approach problems from a “user centered design” perspective, using methods such as paper prototyping, usability testing, and transaction log analysis to develop and refine our products.

Systems Architecture

The group provides systems administration, database administration and application support for a wide range of Library services. Primary systems include the Library’s Oracle-based library management system (Voyager), the Library Archival System (LAS) used to manage the inventory at the Library’s remote storage facility, the electronic resources management (ERM) system, the Luna Insight visual resource management system, Library web pages, and several MySQL databases. The group creates a wide variety of management and statistical reports and provides them to Library staff to streamline workflows, facilitate decision-making, and support Library-wide initiatives. We also provide purchasing and networking recommendations for new servers and projects.
