700 Clark Hall

This page contains information related to supporting Library events in 700 Clark Hall, with a focus on IT-related issues.

Basic information:

To do this... ...you will need to do this:
Use the wireless network in the 7th floor of Clark Hall, or the ethernet jack in 700 Clark Hall.

As of 11/19/03:
We have obtained two IPs Library staff can use when on the 7th floor of Clark Hall (wireless or ethernet):

132.236.95.39 library1.ccmr.cornell.edu
132.236.95.40 library2.ccmr.cornell.edu

gateway: 132.236.95.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
(broadcast 132.236.95.255)

Additional network details (including what to do if more than two IPs are required, definitions, and "how to's").

Network contact information.

Reserve the room, get keys, arrange a test run, get projector's remote, etc.

Get information about the computer projector, including manual and remote. [See below, too, for link to manual.]

As of 10/20/03:
Contact Win Tanner (5-5079; G-28 Clark Hall)

Make sure you pick up the keys you need!
Unique keys are required for:

  • Elevator access to 7th floor (usually already open during business hours)
  • Access to the AV room.
  • Access to the AV cabinet in the AV room (for the computer projector and the sound system)

Sound system inputs
11/03

Input 1: Portable Mic.
Input 2: Audio jack on right side of stage (facing the audience). This is the jack on the horizontal surface of the stage. It is usually capped with metal disk.
Input 3: Audio jack on the left side of the stage (facing the audience). This jack is on the front, vertical panel of the stage. This jack is closer to the AV room than the other stage jack.
Input 4:Audio jack reportedly in the back of the auditorium. We have not used or tested it, nor verified where precisely it's located.

Make sure the Master volume dial is ~12 o'clock position. If it's at zero, no sound may come up regardless of the Input settings! Also, if using more than one sound input (above), balance them using the inputs, and then use the Master dial to raise and lower the volumes uniformly.

Portable mic

If the red light on the portable unit flashes on several times when the unit is turned on, the battery is LOW. Replace the battery and notify Win Tanner. (With a new battery, the red light quickly blinks on/off once when the unit is turned on.)
Spare Batteries

The nine volt battery you saw is a spare [to the portable mic] and unless someone changes them and doesn't throw the old one out it should be good.
However if there is none there then the stockroom (D24 in basement) has a supply and sells them to those in need. They also have the AA battery's that the [computer projector's] remote takes if that should fail. I have spare bulbs for everything except the LCD [computer projector] which are very expensive [$400] and if it should fail, well, sorry.
Happy Days
Win

[notes by Oliver]

Either bring spare batteries appropriate to the devices you are depending on, or be prepared to buy some from the stockroom.

Computer Projector
10/03

The computer projector in 700 Clark Hall is a Sony VPL-X1000U LCD Data Projector (at the time of this writing.)

Win Tanner has the remote. The remote is the only way to elegantly temporarily blacken the image without turning off the unit (which is otherwise awkward and time-consuming to do).

The link to the right is a copy of the computer projector's user manual, which appears to be a photo-copy. This copy of the manual originally came from http://www.avtg.com.

An installation-oriented operations manual (from 1/1/99) is also available, but does not appear to be useful for the general user. (It requires a password to open.) That manual came from Sony directly.

The bulbs tend to last a long time and they are expensive, especially relative to the age of the projector unit. Thus, no spare bulb is provided. Random samples of where bulbs are apparently sold: $374.95, $381.26, and $606.

Tip: Place the computer projector on one of the grey metal carts that have built-in tilt capabilities.
