John Ewing's
Twenty Centuries of Mathematics: Digitizing and Disseminating the Past
Mathematical Literature refers to an estimate of the size of
the published literature of mathematics that I made. With one
exception, that computation is derived from standard sources. The
computation itself is the first entry, followed by a diagram of the sources
for various time periods, an abbreviated comparative table of
publications, and a description of the composition of the various
sources by publication type. More precise details are given in the
bottom 5 tables.
The tables were originally computed in June, 2000. Some were updated
in January, 2002, and they should be updated again in view of
additional data recently added to the Jahrbuch-Project. Nevertheless,
I believe that they give a reasonable estimate of number of pages
of published mathematics.
