Documentation Committee Meeting
November 5, 2007

ReDS update (Jim):
The Steering Committee is no longer discussing changes to the local catalog due to many reasons, including the fall 2008 adoption of WorldCat Local as the Library's main catalog. The focus of the committee has switched to Webfeat.

Access Services update (Staci):
Nothing to update.

Visual Resources documentation (Glen):
The coordination of updating the image help in the FindIt! section is ongoing. Once all parties (Knight Visual Resources Facility, Visual Resources Working Group, etc.) can agree on a standardized image help page, the same image help information will be integrated into the Gateway help.

Web Vision Team Update (Glen):
Glen reported Susan's findings about our committee's connection to the Web Vision Team's work. Basically, Kornelia's group of the Web Vision Team will coordinate with us if there are drastic changes that need to be made to our documentation. They are aware that new documentation will take time to create and members of this team might be visitors in our future meetings. For now, we need to think about the purpose of the help pages and how best they can work for the users in the future.

Updating Help pages (everyone):
We went through all the drafts in progress on the wiki. We made some further deletions of outdated text and refined confusing wording. The latest drafts are posted under the Drafts in Process section. The one major change not reflected in the drafts section is the removal of the whole page called "Computer set-up for the Library Gateway" under Technical Support. Amy had done some revisions to each section of this page. However, at the meeting, we recommended that the whole page be deleted and we could combine some important information about cookies, unicode, and browser versions to go under the FAQ area.
