WebFeat/Find it! Update

Gail demonstrated the development sytem for Find It! (http://dev.webfeat.org/clients/cornellu/wf3_cornellu.asp), the new Find Articles/Find Databases/Find Images system and presented the documentation that she is in the process of drafting for a new Find it! Quick Guide, a preliminary list of the Gateway Help pages that will be affected by the upgrade, and a current list of the databases searched by the Find it! quick search box (Camille will send Susan and Melody copies for comment). She solicited feedback from the group on the in process draft of the Find it! quick guide; thr group will report back by Feb. 12.

The group made a few suggestions for improvement; chief among tham being the addition of a "What is this searching?" link that will lead to a list of the databases searched by the Quick Search box and the removal of the "Technical support contacted" indicator when a database fails to connect (since nether WeFeat nor CUL tech support are actively alerted). 

The system itself is still in the process of being tweaked. Zsuzsa Koltay will send out a call for feedback on Monday and a decision about whether to go live with the new system will be reached by Wed. at noon. If yes, then it will go live on Thursday. If no, it will go live on Mon.

Documentation Committee tasks:

• All: Feedback to Gail ASAP on Find it! quick guide (Jan 12 if possible)
• Camille and Susan: Will split the list of preliminary pages and will begin to make changes once system goes live
• All: Will check other pages in each section (see assignments below) that aren't on that list (i.e. not indexed with the words Find Articles, Find Databases, etc ) and will post changes to wiki (Jan 17 [ETA: extended because of later update])
  • Amy: Technical support 
  • Camille: Research tools
  • Jim: Research tuptoria;
  • Susan and Melody: will split Research Services
• Camille: will resend wiki instructions
• When secondary chages are compiled Camille and Susan will  update site (by Jan 19 or so)
• When new quick guide is posted, Melody will take to Copy Center and Camille or Susan will send announcement ot CU-LIB

Other updates: Voyger upgrade is complete and only two significant public services changes were made: Shortcut link to static catalog record and, in Guided Keyword search, addition of Holdings Keyword search (of more concern to staff than patrons). Jim will check on changes to functionality/catalog behavior and report back to committee. Shortcut link requires changes to Canned Searches page; Camille will draft language and post to wiki
