Announcements:
Lynn Thitchener now has access to the server that hosts the Documentation Committee's help pages. As such, she is named Co-Chair of the committee and will receive training from Ida on maintaining and updating help pages, the Manifest File, and running MakeKeywordIndex.

Ida and Lynn both have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional for creating pdf documents.

Old Business:

• Lynn and Ida completed the HTML updating and uploading of the MLA citation guide. Ida will convert the HTML version into a Word Document (for filing in Photocopy Services) and a PDF document (for posting alongside the HTML version on the help pages).
• Ida and Amy Blumenthal updated the Cookies page (linked from the Computer Set-up page). Amy had noticed that some vital information needed to be added.
• Gail has been working on updating the Gnu Zip Compression page and has made good progress. In providing technology-related help, the committee will follow CIT's lead on which versions of browsers and operating systems we will provide information for. Gail also found an "extra" Computer Set-Up page from a help page link. Ida will look into getting this extra Computer Set-up page removed and the link directed to the correct page. Gail is looking at other software programs (besides Gzip) to recommend for opening compressed files. She will draft an announcement and query to IRPC about zip software recommendations. Ida will send the message to IRPC.
• Lynn updated the help page on finding dissertations to include relevant information on the limits of the free database from UMI, Current Research at Cornell.
• Ida updated the Find Articles and Find Databases quickguides and posted changes to the help pages (HTML and PDF) and took Word copies to Photocopy Services.
• Committee discussed the changes Ida made to the Overview page. Committee members will send their comments and suggestions to Ida over the next few weeks so that a second (final?) draft can be considered at the next meeting.

Reports:

• Lynn reported on some interesting developments on the GCII committee. She showed us a new Alphabetical Index link and search bar at the bottom of the Gateway. It has been developed by an engineering class. The GCII committee also decided to remove all "numbers" from their pages because it is hard to keep them up-to-date. Lynn pointed out that there is a lot of parallel goals between the GCII committee and the Documentation Committee (indexing concerns, updating statistics and holding numbers). The last development to look for is a new CU logo that we will have to incorporate onto all our CUL pages.
• No report from Kizer, as PESWG has not met.

New Business:

• Ida introduced a new project for the committee. Each member was assigned approximately 16-17 help pages each. Members will look closely at the indexing terms for each page and recommend edits. We will discuss ideas and concerns about the editing process at our next meeting.
