Documentation Committee Meeting Minutes for Wednesday
December 11, 2002
Present:
Jaime Martindale (JM), Kornelia Tancheva (KT), Thad Dickinson
(TD), Mary Patterson (MP), Ida Martinez (IM), Carmen Blankenship (CB)
- APA
Guide: HTML and PDF are finished and have gone live. KT fixed tags that were
problematic.
- MLA
Guide: PDF is finished and up.
- e-Reference html page:
MP did the word document, and KT updated the html. The page is up.
- All
Print documentation is up to date at this time.
- KT
met with Sarah Chandler regarding the ENCOMPASS project, and the help pages
that are affected by it. KT distributed a handout with a list of these
pages.
- The
committee needs to have someone (from Doc Comm) agree to be the liaison to
ENCOMPASS (as Sarah begins to create Help pages). Ida will do this.
- All
new Help pages are live: Netscape 6.2 and 7.0 for Mac; Netscape 7.0 for PC;
Unix 6.2 and 7.0; Netscape 6.2 for PC; and the ILL page.
- ILL
Page information from MP: Mary discussed the issue of the ILL and Borrow
Direct links from the Help index with Julie Copenhagen. It was suggested that ILL and Borrow
Direct should be on separate lines (as separate bullets). KT will do
this.
- Catalog upgrade and
Help pages: MyCatalog, Combined Keyword Searches, and Multiple Export
formats.
-We will separate the 3 new
elements:
ü
Under “Guided Keyword Search” we will add Combined
Keyword Searches.
ü
Under “Print/Save/E-mail” we will add Multiple Export
Formats.
ü
Under the very first section after “Cornell Library
Catalog” we will add a bullet for
MyCatalog [HTML] and [PDF].
ü
Entire “Library Catalog New Features” document will be
a
gateway page and NOT a Help
page. A link from the Gateway “New
Features” will go this document. KT will give this document to the Gateway
Committee to place it wherever they feel is appropriate.
ü
“New Catalog Features” must also be incorporated into
the existing Quick Guide within the Catalog Help. This will be a future project.
- e-Reference Overview
Page: We should add information on e-Journals. (A
recommendation from Sarah
Chandler). We will add a “Please Note” section
informing users
that the e-Journals title list exists as an option. TD will do
this.
- In
the search tips for e-Reference we need to eliminate the BRS telnet, BRS
Web
links, and evaluate the currency
and accuracy of the “NetLibrary”; “OCLC Web”;
and “Washington
Alert”. TD will remove the BRS information, and IM will
verify the
accuracy of the rest.
12. MyLibrary Help update: TD
is updating the MyLibrary help pages.
- net_resources.html:
Metadata needs updating on this page, with a name added. JM will do
this.
- Meeting time for next
semester. We will try to
alternate between Olin and Mann, every 1st Wednesday of the month,
from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. IM and
KT will coordinate the Mann and Olin meeting rooms.
- CB
would like someone (TD or KT) to speak at an Access Services meeting about the
new Catalog features. KT
recommends Fred Muratori.
