1. New Library Gateway and updating Help
Kornelia discussed the
new/interim procedures for maintaining the help pages now that GRIT has taken
over management of most of the Library Gateway. There is no longer a Test
Gateway/Server separate from the Production server. Any changes/updates are made
on the actual Production Gateway and pages are currently being updated using the
Dreamweaver HTML editor. Kornelia has access to the server and has been able to
transfer/FTP pages as necessary. At this stage it is preferable that only one or
two people from the Documentation Committee have this responsibility. The
Committee does not currently have access to the MakeKeywordIndex, Makepage and
the Manifest files. Holly Mistlebauer and John Cline are in the process of
investigating some of this and Kornelia will keep the group posted as things
develop.
2. Recent Updates: Footer; MyLibrary; Retain Searches catalog button;
Canned searches
Kornelia reported that:
· Updates to the Gateway/Help
Footer have been made thanks to John Cline.
· There are still issues with the
metadata for the MyLibrary-MyUpdates/current awareness page that should be fixed
when the MakeKeywordIndex and Manifest file can be updated.
· Per Michael
Engle's request, additional information on retaining marked records on title
searches pages, has been added to
http://ivy.mannlib.cornell.edu/newhelp/res_tools/catalog/print.html
Jaime
demo'd the new changes to the "course reserve search" portion of the Canned
Searches page. She has created a static page that demonstrates the course
reserve search function.
3. Items/Pages in process: Browser/Configuration (Lee); Problem reporting form; Ask a Librarian; cookies (KT); Print Documentation (Mary)
· Lee commented on the developments for the Browser help pages. The Gateway
and Grit committees have indicated that it is fine to remove Help Pages for
older browsers that are no longer available or commonly in use. Lee will modify
the existing Browser and Telnet Help pages to reflect this. The revised listings
will cover browsers version forward of Netscape 4.x and MSIE 5.x and will
include the updates from Holly M's recent list of "known problems".
· John
Cline is working on implementing updates to the Problem reporting form.
· The
main Ask-a-Librarian page has been linked to the Help Index.
· Kornelia
reviewed the wording changes to the "How are Cookies enabled" text on the
Cookies page.
· Mary handed out copies of the print documentation folder
contents from the Copy Center in Olin. The group reviewed the pages in order to
identify necessary changes and updates. Jaime agreed to work on updating the APA
Citation Style page. Mihoko agreed to work on the MLA Citation Style page. Thad
will work on updating the Finding Articles from Periodicals-FAQ. Kornelia will
work on the Library Catalog Quickguide. Mary will work on making updates to the
eReference Collection Quickguide. She will also check the Print Documentation
Diskette and the Engineering reference computer for Word and other formats of
these documents. Kornelia will notify Maureen on that the CUL Bookmark needs to
be updated and ask for suggestions from the GRIT group.
4. New requests:
The group reviewed a variety of recent requests/developments for
documentation pages:
· Netscape 6.2- Holly M. and John C. have identified
setting that will allow Netscape 6.2 to work with the Library Gateway and Proxy
server, but are waiting to hear form CIT before moving forward.
· Index to
Help, help link in breadcrumb trail-Kornelia reports of broken links within the
Help index and navigation feature. Some of these have already been repaired but
Lee will run another Broken Link report
· Netscape 7 and IE 6. We decided to
review those at our next meeting.
· Header ('Launch Help: In Separate Window
or In Right-hand Frame'-- will be fixed by ITS
·
5. Misc.
