Documentation Committee Meeting

Blackboard and Library Integration

Tony Cosgrave joined us to discuss the upcoming integration and presence of library services into Blackboard (course management software) used across CU.  The target date for this integration is the beginning of the Fall semester 2006.   Jesse Koennecke, Marty Kurth and Tony Cosgrave comprise a small working group of a larger collaborative enterprise that includes CIT and library management. 

Library services added into Blackboard (BB) include links/buttons in the navigation menu to the Library Gateway/Catalog and Ask a Librarian.  In addition, links to RefWorks (to create a new account or use an existing account) will be located under the Tools menu in BB.

The integration and more visible presence of library services in BB will require documentation and help pages to assist faculty (and students) in bookmarking library catalog searches, as well as restricted online resources, such as articles, journals and databases.

The main documentation will be prepared by the ‘Blackboard-library integration’ members for library services, and by the CMWG (Citation Management Working Group) for RefWorks.  The documentation committee will aim to have all necessary components for the Gateway Help pages by July.

Additions/Modifications to Help Pages

o       Linking to Library Resources (bookmarking) – the existing Gateway Help page on bookmarking restricted/licensed sources will be updated.   Additions and modifications are still underway.

o       Voyager Canned Search Generator – we have the possibility of adding the Voyager Canned Search Generator to our ‘bookmarking’ help section.

Co-Chair for Documentation Committee & ReDs (Resource Discovery Systems Working Group) liaison

Doc Comm co-chair – to be determined [Susan Kendrick later volunteered].

ReDs liaison—Gail is rotation off as liaison and a new DC member (TBD [Jim Alberts later volunteered]) will take her place.

Summer & Fall Meetings

Meetings will continue to take place the first Friday of every month.  Our meeting time will be changed to be from 1:00 – 2:00pm.

The schedule for taking minutes is as listed below.  Locations for meetings will be determined at a future meeting.
