Documentation Committee Meeting Minutes

August 6, 2003

Announcements:

·        Mary Patterson will rotate off the committee soon (Sept. or Oct.?).  Jaime will ask Nan Hyland if we can get a new committee member.

 

Quick updates:

·        Based on suggestions from a patron, Jaime will add content to the Safari Browser help page.  Kizer suggested that John Saylor might be able to offer some input since he uses Safari.

 

·        Based on a suggestion from a patron, Lynn will add a link on the Wireless (Red Rover) help page to specific CIT page(s) that cover recommended wireless cards and 802.11b information.

 

·        Jaime will follow-up with Maureen about adding “non-musical recordings” (in briefer terms) and “dissertations” to the Gateway’s “How do I find…” drop-down menu.

 

·        Jaime will try to get the committee’s bookmark file from Mary so that changes can be made to it (“Find Articles/Find Databases” in place of “e-Reference Collection”).

 

·        Keene Silfer of D-LIT sent the committee an e-mail with updated technical information on reading/viewing .wk1 files.  Ida will make the suggested changes.

 

ENCompass Updates:

Ida led discussion on pages that need updating, changes to tables of content, and other issues relating to the Aug. 14 switchover from e-Reference to Find Articles/Find Databases. The following assignments/decisions were made:

 

• Library Gateway “e-Reference Collection” link from the main Help TOC will go away August 14^th.
• Ida will update the “Find Databases” quick guide and Sarah Chandler will provide us with a “Find e-Journals” quick guide.
• Kaiser volunteered to update the “Overview and Clarification” page within the Library Research section.
• Library Catalogs WorldWide (RLIN and WorldCat) links need to be updated to new FA?FD URLs.
• Jaime will update the “CUL Handouts” page (since it’s on Gould).
• Carmen added that she’d like announcements for the FA/FD/F EJ quick guides sent out over the Circadmin-L list.
• Lynn volunteered to make necessary updates to the Find Articles page within the Help (to reflect the FA/FD changes.
• The Telnet pages (configuring browsers for e-reference) will go away and one that explains how to configure for use of the Telnet catalog will be added to the Catalog help section.  Thad and Ida will do this.
• Jaime will update all the FAQ (meeting with Amy and Fiona about technical issues).
• Connecting from off-campus page for FA/FD will replace existing page on Aug 14^th. (Thad will upload it.
• Thad and Ida will review the FA/FD TOC pages and make necessary changes.
• All browser pages from within “Computer Set-up” will change.  Only certain browsers will work with the FA/FD system.  (PC – IE 5 and above, and Netscape 6.2 and above; Mac – Only Netscape 6 and above, NO IE!)  Thad and Ida will review these and make changes with advice from Amy and Fiona.
• All links must begin with “encompass” or “resolver”. Anything beginning with “campusgw” will need updating with new links.
