Fines
Stack books:
Graduate students, undergraduates, and library card holders are fined at the rate of .75 per day for overdue material. There is a 9 day grace period, after the 9th day, the fine is calculated from the day the book was due.
Recalled books:
All Cornell library books may be recalled from any reader at any time, including Cornell breaks. There is NO grace period on a recalled book. All library borrowers will be fined at the rate of $3.00 per day for overdue recalled books.
Reserve materials:
Two hour reserve materials are fined at the rate of .04 per minute. One day reserve materials are fined at the rate of $2.00 per day. Please return reserve material promptly!
Bound Periodicals:
Bound periodicals are fined at the rate of $2.00 per day. There is no grace period for bound periodicals.
Special loan materials:
Special loan materials are fined at the rate of $2.00 per day. Videos and DVDs belong to this category.
Replacement fees:
Standard replacement fees for lost book: $100.00
Standard replacement fees for short term loan book: $125.00
Standard replacement fees for reserve or recalled book: $135.00
Account blocks:
A patron's ID will be blocked and borrowing privileges will be suspended if the borrower:
- Owes library bills of $300 or more.
- Fails to respond to one recall request.
- Has more than 100 overdue items.
Fines not paid to the circulation desk at the moment of return are promptly forwarded to the Cornell University Bursar office. Fines for Faculty, Staff and Library card holders will attempt to be collected and then forwarded to a Collection Agency if necessary.
If you feel you have received a fine in error, you may file an Appeal Form at the Circulation Desk.
