Call Number/Location Guide

Where Is the Library?

The Fine Arts Library is housed in Sibley Hall. In addition to the Dome area, it occupies the second and third floor of Sibley's East Wing. There is one entrance and exit to the library, the stairs to which are located just outside the Hartell Gallery.

The circulation, reserve, and reference areas are all on the second floor of Sibley, immediately under the Dome. Computers are located under the Dome and in the stacks.

Call Numbers:

Cornell University follows the Library of Congress Call Number system. Each book is catalogued and given a call number based on several factors, which include the subject matter and author. All books in the library are shelved by call number.

Breakdown by Call number and Location:

A-M - Third floor of Sibley
N - Second Floor of Sibley
NA - Third floor of Sibley
NAC - Third floor of Sibley
NB, NC, ND, NE, NK, NX - Third floor of Sibley

* - Periodicals are shelved by their call number in most cases.

Books which are designated as Flats, Oversize, Reference and Reserve are separated from the regular collection and housed in special locations. A search in the Cornell Library Catalog should note these special areas as part of the call number. Maps are also posted in the library, or you can ask the Reference or Circulation desk for directional assistance.
