The next forum will be in early February, date to be determined. Feedback from comments was that there should be more focus, handouts, meeting time should be longer, and individuals should bring something to share with the group. The group agreed to extend the time to 90 minutes, instead of 60 minutes. The outcome of the last forum was this should focus on registration and/or assessment. The group agreed to focus on registration. Kornelia, Tony and Jill will show their library’s registration system. Future forum ideas: teaching with technology, philosophy, faculty library and partnerships in and instruction context.
Action: Virginia will look at other University’s registration system and report back.
Speaker: Thad presented three potential speakers for the Spring Retreat: Tom Kirk, Earlham College, recipient of 2004 ARCL Academic/Research Librarian of the Year; Barbara Kobritz, TC3, Instructional Services Librarian; Jeff Liles, St. John Fisher College, Professor, Education Department. Group agreed Mr. Kirk was our first choice of speaker, and Dr. Liles as second choice. Budget still unknown for retreat and speaker.
Action: Thad will contact Mr. Kirk and inquire of his interest to speak.
Action: Kornelia will follow up with Anne regarding budget for retreat.
Action: Randi will price airline flights and hotel room budget for selected speakers.
Format: The group discussed how the retreat should be structured. All agreed it was dependent on the speaker, and if they have a preferred organization of the retreat. Other options discussed were a panel discussion, small group discussion, a main presenter and then smaller break-out groups. The group discussed the postponement of the retreat from March to later in the year – preferably April or May to give more time to planning.
Next meeting: January 20, 2005 – 106 Olin Library
