Cornell’s Associated Science and Technology (ASTech) Libraries: Collaboration in Action
ASTech Libraries is the new name of Cornell’s administratively integrated Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine libraries. Staff of the four libraries contributed to the renaming process by quickly identifying the two attributes that define these libraries: the subject matter—science and technology—and the process of interaction with each other and with library users—collaboration. Within the next few months a new logo will appear on the ASTech Libraries Web site and newsletter. The newsletter already has a new name: Check Out! The News from ASTech Libraries. Several ASTech Libraries staff are taking on new responsibilities. As access and operations manager, Joanne Leary will continue to coordinate the work of access specialists across the ASTech Libraries. She will also assist AUL Jean Poland, the unit directors, and the subject staff in operational matters such as personnel, statistics, training, communications, newsletter coordination, and facilities issues. As the administrative manager reporting to Joanne, Jill Ulbricht will support administrative needs such as scheduling, travel, finance and accounting, collection development support, and Web maintenance. Jean Poland expresses her thanks to all ASTech Libraries staff for the thoughtfulness and creativity they brought to their discussions: “I was touched by the repeated themes of integration, cooperation, clustering, association, and affiliation that came up in the brainstorming sessions. The process, as well as the results, truly reflected collaboration in action.” Next: Reading the Tea Leaves > |
