April 2006

This month will be the last time that both InsideCUL and Kaleidoscope appear together. Currently Kaleidoscope is published every other month so the real change is that InsideCUL will now appear every other month alternating with Kaleidoscope. The schedule is as follows:

Kaleidoscope: (August, October, December, February, and April)

InsideCUL: (July, September, November, March, and May)

I keep telling myself it’s just a little over two months, but somehow that doesn’t really reflect the degree to which I’ve been immersed in the “business” of communications. Yes, Virginia, there really is a communications unit in CUL, and I’m living proof that retired business librarians can be re-invented and can re-enter the work world.

Lavoisier Collection Grows

Since the early 1960s CUL has been home to the largest collection outside Paris of material by and about Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794), the French scientist known as the father of modern chemistry. He developed the basic nomenclature and theoretical structure of chemistry as we know it today.
