A Tribute to Ross Atkinson

Ross Atkinson, Deputy University Librarian at Cornell University, passed away at the age of 60 on March 8, 2006, after a long and arduous illness. No one who knew him was surprised by the courage, the dignity, and the resolute commitment to his family and his profession that accompanied him through his last difficult years.

Destined for the Dumpster?

Because of space reallocations, the Fine Arts Library recently found itself with a large quantity of unused shelving. No, it wasn’t the latest compact shelving, nor was it a newer version of the old stuff, the kind with attached sides. It was very basic and fairly simple to assemble and did not have an intended use anywhere in CUL. Regardless, it was perfectly functional. Maybe someone could use it.

CUL’s Role in Teaching and Learning

Recently, Sarah Thomas received a survey sent to all Association of Research Libraries (ARL) directors from the Task Force on Library Roles for Teaching and Learning. The survey asked that each library submit a brief description of its efforts and the activities of its librarians in these new roles. The response that CUL prepared was so impressive in the initiative it has shown that Sarah felt the staff should share in seeing our accomplishments.

Get It! Cornell: Recent Improvements in CUL’s “Find” Services
