Notes
from the Transition
Dear Colleagues:
I'm pleased to announce that the IRIS Transition Web site is now available
at www.library.cornell.edu/iris/. This site enables the IRIS Transition
Team to document its work and provides two-way communication with all
IRIS staff members and other interested individuals in Cornell University
Library and beyond. It is the brain child of the Common Look and Feel
Task Force, whose members include Carla DeMello (chair), Carrie Benedict,
Michael Engle, Lance Heidig, Rick Lightbody, Craig Mains, Maureen Morris,
and Mikki Winberg.
We all know by now that IRIS stands for Instruction, Research, and Information
Services, but the Task Force set about looking for other meanings of the
word and discovered quite a few. Click on "An iris by any other name"
to see those highlighted by the group. My favorite is Iris, the Greek
Goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods. This seemed so fitting
for IRIS and its vision of bringing individuals and information together,
that the Task Force designed the transition web site in her honor. I hope
you like it and will join me in thanking the (Not so) Common Look and
Feel Task Force.
