Unit Libraries Task Force Minutes

IRIS SPACE TASK FORCE
Februray 14, 2002
Meeting notes -- P. Schafer
Present: John Dean, Fred Muratori, David Block, Susan Currie, John Hoffmann (ex officio)

Pat distributed copies of floor plans for Olin, Uris and Kroch libraries and reviewed the charge and schedule for the group. She also talked about the relationship of this group to the Olin/Uris Working Group, Olin First Floor Committee, and the IRIS Staffing Task Force. She said that it was important for the Space Task Force to keep in close touch with these other groups. That should be facilitated by our cross-membership on all of these groups. All agreed that we would look for ways to connect with planning efforts in non-IRIS units in the affected libraries.

John H briefed the group on what construction/renovation activities could be accomplished with relative ease and speed and what would take more time. Simple power, data, and office moves would fall into the former category. Building walls/offices and projects over $50,000 would fall into the later category. Code issues would surface as well as the need for broader review by University authorities. John mentioned Carol Wedge's (SBRA) upcoming visit March 13 and 14 for the Olin/Uris project and said that she would meet with the IRIS Transition Team.

The task force agreed to meet the week of February 25. Each member also agreed to color code the space on the floor plan currently occupied by his/her current unit; i.e. Fred--Reference, Susan--Access, David--Collection Development, Asia, and Gifts & Exchange, John Dean--Preservation & Conservation, Pat--Administrative office. The purpose of this exercise is to identify the space currently controlled by IRIS. Task Force members should consider which spaces are unlikely to change in regard to function and staff location for the short term and those that are possible candidates for change. This will be the topic of the next meeting. Finally, John Dean briefed the group on the Staffing Task Force's plan for an IRIS staff skills survey.
