Research and Assessment Services
Research & Assessment Services is a unit within the Instruction, Research, and Information Services (IRIS) Division of Cornell University Library. Our specific aims are to:
- provide a focal point for library research in CUL
- leverage the strong foundation of research at Cornell
- respond to the increasing interests of the research library in the digital environment
- support the development of new and enhanced library services and products
The research program undertakes both systematic research and ad hoc research projects, in response to needs and priorities identified by the CUL Library Management Team, IRIS, and the Digital Preservation Officer. Research & Assessment Services develops internal and external collaborative relationships to develop and implement research projects, products, and services. The department also functions externally as a cost-recovery and/or bartered service. While there is an emphasis on the implications of technology for libraries, the research activities may cover all library resource formats and functions.
The results of the research program will contribute to the development of new and enhanced library information, products, and services. Workable pathways are developed, whenever possible, from research to programmatic use. Cornell provides a natural environment in which to apply and test the results of the research process. Research & Assessment Services seeks to produce practical, feasible, and implementable results that are aligned with the established and evolving priorities of the Library.
