Subject: LMS Implementation Planning
to: CUL
Dear Colleagues,
With the signing of a contract to acquire Endeavor Information Systems'
Voyager software, implemention planning can begin in earnest. I am pleased
to announce initial steps.
An Implementation Steering Committee will oversee project administration.
The Committee is comprised of Sarah Thomas, Ross Atkinson, and myself.
Additionally, Helen Mohrmann (Director of Administrative Systems and Distributed
Technologies, CIT) will serve ex officio, insuring coordination with campus-wide
technology planning.
Lynne Personius has been appointed Implementation Project Director. Ms.
Personius (Director of Library Systems in the Divsion of Digital Library
and Information Technologies) is an ideal choice. She is broadly familiar
with library technologies employed campus-wide, has managed support for
the present LMS from its initial installation, chaired the LMS Evaluation
Committee, and enjoys collegial confidence and respect throughout CUL.
With contract negotiations completed, system hardware is already being
ordered and initial training for systems staff is being organized. An
Implementation Team will be announced within a few weeks.
Successful implementation of the Voyager system is a daunting challenge,
necessitating active participation and cooperation Library-wide. It is
also an exciting opportunity to provide dramatically improved Library
services for our many users. I am enthusiastic about the Library's ability
to conduct this process effectively and to fully complete implementation
by July of 2000.
