subject: New LMS: Endeavor Contract Signed
to: CUL
Dear Colleagues,
Cornell University, represented by Provost Don M. Randel and myself,
has signed a contract with Endeavor to purchase its Voyager system. This
is an important milestone in our quest for a library management system
that possesses the flexibility and stability that enables us to maintain
our high standards of service and productivity and our leadership in developing
digital library initiatives. Thanks to the intelligent contributions of
the LMS Evaluation Committee, the LMS Steering Committee, and many others
throughout the Library and the University, we have finally selected a
system, and now, thanks to the support of the Provost, we are making the
financial commitment necessary to acquire the Voyager software, hardware,
and other services that will result in the installation of a new LMS in
July 2000. I want to thank a few of the many people who made this possible:
Lynne Personius, whose technical knowledge and steady leadership has been
absolutely invaluable; Tom Hickerson, who stepped in midway in our selection
process and did a superb job of bringing this complex activity to a successful
conclusion; and Lee Cartmill, who monitored and analyzed the financial
and legal issues with his usual outstanding attention to detail and acumen.
We'll have a busy year ahead, but we should savor this moment. Congratulations
to all who had a hand in bringing the Library Management System selection
to this stage.
