Voyager Updates

  • Muffhead reload is complete
  • Diane Hillmann is not present because she is busy working on SysAdmin so we can start testing
  • Computer auditor for Cornell has agreed to look at our security plan and make recommendations

Outstanding Items

  • Steering committee still hasn't accepted our plan for managing SysAdmin after implementation. They are curious to know what other institutions have done. Lynne checked into it and every institution seems to do it differently ranging from a single librarian to a team of technical people. Lynne will bring up the plan again at the next steering committee meeting.
  • We still haven't scheduled a date to upgrade to Voyager 2000. Endeavor will not schedule a date until the new version has been released even though we were scheduled to upgrade in August. Endeavor is pushing for an early upgrade because it will be paired with the release of Encompass. There is a tentative plan to load both on the test server as soon as they are released. Lynne will run this by the steering committee.
  • Karen Calhoun will host a system-wide committee to discuss the future of reporting on Friday 6/2. They will make recommendations about current and future goals and policies. It has been proposed that we use individual log-ins for queries so we can identify the author of the query in the case of a run-away query that affects system performance.
  • We have a proposal from Endeavor regarding the Library of Congress bib file that we still need to approve. Lynne P. will handle this.
  • There are still many hardware issues that need to be resolved. Circulation will need their new computers in three weeks. We'll need a second round of barcode scanners and printers for reports. We also need to discuss having a global print queue and where that would be.
  • We have 250 licenses for MacroExpress. There are 5 installation CD's circulating. Victor Gorodinsky will come give a train-the-trainer session on MacroExpress. He has written close to 300 macros. Scott Wicks offered to demo the basics.
  • Patron log-in issue is still not resolved. Tom Gale is working on this issue. He will need to contact a programmer at Endeavor in order to write a special program. Tom's program would be external to the Voyager sytem and would have to be updated with each release. Or we could pay to have Endeavor build a program into the system.
  • We need to test the hook to holdings aspect of Silver Platter and First Search to see if we can get rid of the "databases" button in OPAC.
  • Need to add screens to redirect patrons from old catalog to the new OPAC.
  • The display of diacritics is not great in the new OPAC. The display was much better in the old OPAC; users will be disappointed if the quality does not improve.
  • Media Scheduling and E-reserve still require planning and implementation. The current plan is to bring them up in January 2001. The Voyager Access Services Committee has discussed the possibility of planning a small implementation of E-Reserve this fall.
