OPAC/Gateway Configuration Group
Notes from the October 25, 1999 meeting
Attending: Lynn Brown, Karen Calhoun, Elaine Engst, Philip Herold, Pat
Schafer, Ed Weissman
- Multiple interfaces:
We are awaiting a reply from Marlene Harris of Endeavor to questions
we
raised about features available in the Windows interface that are not
available WebVoyage. We would like to make a recommendation about whether
to implement the Windows interface as soon as possible so as to make
the
best use of the OPAC Configuration training on November 30-December
1.
- Integration of the Library Gateway Networked Resources functionality
into Voyager:
Tom Gale has agreed to work with the Group to help determine if and
how
we can integrate Networked Resources functionality into Voyager. We
will
focus on this issue at our next two meetings. At the next meeting, Karen
will provide information about the Gateway catalog. At the following
meeting, Tom will provide an overview of the technical underpinnings
of the
Library Gateway. Our goal is to make a recommendation regarding the
integration of Networked Resources functionality into Voyager by
mid-December. This will have two parts: 1) can we integrate and, if
so,
what needs to be done and what will it cost?; 2) when should we
integrate--by June 2000, August 2000, January 2001 or June 2001?
- Assistance
We agreed to formally ask Fred Muratori to join the Group. Fred has
considerable experience working on Z39.50 configurations. We hope soon
to
appoint someone who will take primary responsibility for the HTML work
and
CGI scripting necessary for WebVoyage configuration, someone who will
focus
on design issues, and someone whose primary focus and responsibility
will
be documentation and who will serve as a link to the Documentation
Subcommittee of IRPC
