Voyager/GFA Development Project Working Group
Meeting Notes - October 29, 1999
Present: Susan Currie, S. Ghangas, Linda Miller, Lynne Personius, Pat
Schafer
The group met with Lynne Personius to plan the next stages of the project
following the submittal to Marlene Harris in early October of the report
outlining the current work flow at the Annex for circulation operations
and location changes. All agreed that prior to exploratory calls to colleagues
at other institutions, little would be done on the project prior to Functional
Training in November. Our hope is for Endeavor to name in December the
programmer who will work on the project. We would like a response from
this individual to our report. We will then contact GFA and organize a
meeting with the two vendors, which should result in proposals from each
for the necessary work from each.
Cornell's contract with Endeavor does not require completion of the interface
until the end of calendar year 2000. Although this will pose efficiency
problems for circulation, it will not a showstopper for location changes.
Both the Annex Moving Project and the Mann temporary move should be completed
by the data migration. There will be ongoing transfers to the Annex, but
not on the scale of the past two years with sizable weekly bulk location
changes.
Pat briefed the group on the recent visit of several regional University
Librarians with Sarah Thomas to the Annex. They expressed interest in
the possibility of a shared facility. Representatives from Ornithology
have also expressed similar sentiments. Lynne mentioned the recent SUNY
decision to purchase Ex Libris and said it would be wise for us to ensure
that what we develop would support multiple catalog interfaces.
Lynne said that she would contact Marlene Harris regarding a response
to our report and the appointment of a programmer.
Surinder briefed the group on her recent Unix security training and recommended
some additional security at an estimated cost of $800. Pat said she would
fund it on an Annex Project account and said to proceed.
The next scheduled meeting will be on November 5.
