1. "What databases
do you recommend for article research?"
Our Business
Databases Arranged by Subject page will list the top databases
for article research. Also, see our How to Conduct Article Research
guide for information on the differences among the databases
and the strengths of each.
NOTE: if you need articles on a topic outside
of business (e.g. technical engineering articles or articles
from sociology journals), you can browse all relevent databases
to which the Cornell Libraries subscribe by clicking the subject
categories on the Find
Databases page on the Library
Gateway.
2. "Where can I
find recent business news?"
The library subscribes to most of the top business publications,
such as The Wall Street Journal, Financial
Times, and Investor's Business Daily.
Recent issues can be found on the Current Periodical shelves
on the first floor of the library. A few extremely popular titles,
such as The Economist and Institutional
Investor, are kept on course reserve at the circulation
desk. These publications can also be accessed electronically
with Factiva.
Several free web sites provide daily business news, inlcuding
Yahoo! Finance,
Reuters,
and Bloomberg.com.
3. "If I have an
article citation, how can I find a copy of the actual article?"
Cornell University Library subscribes to thousands of journal
titles so the first step is to perform a journal title search
for the periodical in the Library
Catalog. Electronically available journals will be denoted
with a Networked Resource image and a link to the journal. Print-based
journals will give a location, call number, and holdings information.
If you would like to limit your search to journals that are
available electronically, use Find
e-Journals.
If all the above methods fail to locate the periodical in which
the article appeared, you can request the article via Interlibrary
Loan (ILL). If you need assistance with submitting an ILL
request, please ask a member of the library staff.
4. "How can I
read an issue of my favorite newspaper or magazine online?"
If you want to read today's Wall Street Journal or
this week's issue of Fortune at home, you don't
have to pay costly subscription prices. The Cornell library
has already paid for these subscriptions, and members of the
Cornell community have access to thousands of publications -
online, full-text, for free. Factiva,
ProQuest,
and Business
Source Premier have built-in features to make browsing the
tables of contents of recent issues easy.
- Factiva - click the "News Pages" tab to get today's front
page headlines from The Wall Street Journal,
The New York Times, BusinessWeek,
and more.
- ProQuest - click the "Search by Publication" link, then
type in the title you want to browse. Click the most recent
issue to view the table of contents.
- Business Source Premier - click the "Publication Search"
link, then type in the title you want to browse. Click the
link for the title and then click the most recent issue to
view the table of contents.
Find
e-Journals is a quick way to determine which of these databases
contains the specific journal or newspaper you are seeking.
5. "Which business
journals does the library subscribe to?"
The library subscribes to most of the top business journals,
including the following:
- Advertising Age
- Barron's
- Brandweek
- BusinessWeek
- Economist
- Entrepreneur
- Forbes
- Fortune
- Harvard Business Review
- Investment Dealer's Digest
- McKinsey Quarterly
- The Deal
- Value Line Investment Survey
To see if a business journal is available electronically, search
for the title in Find
e-Journals. If the journal is not available electronically,
you can find the location of the print copy by searching for the
title in the Library
Catalog.
6. "How do I cite
my sources and prepare a bibliography?"
The Cornell libray has prepared citation
guides for each of the major citation styles.
Members of the Cornell community have access to RefWorks,
a citation management tool. When you enter information regarding
the sources you used for a project (such as author, title, journal,
etc.), Refworks will create a bibliography in the format that
you want. Refworks has a series of online tutorials to get you
started and there are also Refworks workshops offered at Olin,
Uris, and Mann libraries to learn about the more advanced features.
