Business Information Workshops - Spring 2009

Below is an alphabetical listing of our library workshops for this semester. Registration is required for each session; a registration link follows the workshop description. If you have a question about any of our workshops, or have an idea for an additional workshop, please use our Ask A Librarian form. We also are interested in feedback from those who attend our workshops so as to help our program better meet the needs of our faculty and students.

Business Collaboration 2.0: Overview
Learn about a variety of Web 2.0 tools that make keeping up-to-date and in-touch easier. Keep track of the latest business news in blogs and newspapers via RSS feeds, use your social network for research and job opportunities, and share/edit a document with your team.

Introduction to Bloomberg
Bloomberg is one of the world’s premier financial databases and provides extensive coverage of global financial markets. Learn how to navigate Bloomberg’s unique command system. Topics covered include codes, how to find them, and how to get help. Attendance to this workshop is limited in order to have hands-on time with the database.

Please note: This workshop is designed for those with limited or no previous Bloomberg experience. If you are already familiar with Bloomberg and would like to learn more about a particular topic, please schedule a consultation with a member of the Management Library reference team.

Consumer Market Research
This hands-on class for consumer market research will demonstrate the best resources for researching market share, brands, and consumer expenditures. Databases that will be demonstrated include: Mintel (consumer market trends), Euromonitor Passport (international markets), SimplyMap (US market data by geography) and Simmons' Choices 3 (brand-level data).

Bloomberg Launchpad & Excel API – How to Track and Download Data
This introductory workshop will show the basics of how to use Bloomberg Launchpad and Excel API. These functions will allow you to track and pull data in Bloomberg. Attendance to this workshop is limited in order to have hands-on time with the database.

Are sites like del.icio.us already helping you manage your bookmarks? Go a step further and learn how to use this tool to position yourself professionally. This 30-minute hands-on workshop will demonstrate different ways social bookmarking can increase your exposure to target customers and help you monitor your target market. Laptop recommended.
