[a MONDAY!]
Digital Publishing System (DPubS)
Host: David Ruddy
This past summer CUL was awarded a grant from the Mellon Foundation to generalize and enhance its Digital Publishing System (DPubS) and release this new, improved version under an open source license. This briefing session will review the 2-year development agenda <http://dpubs.org/DevAgenda.html> and discuss how our project collaborators (peer libraries and university presses) will contribute to our development goals.

Management of Web Sites Using CommonSpot
Host: Holly Mistlebauer
PaperThin's CommonSpot is a "complete and comprehensive web content management solution providing organizations with simple and sophisticated tools for creating, publishing and managing Web content in a controlled, distributed and collaborative Web development environment."
Cornell University purchased a site license for CommonSpot at the end of 2004. The first quarter of 2005 is being spent determining how best to implement CommonSpot within CUL. Oya Rieger, coordinator of the installation and initial implementation of CommonSpot at CUL, will give us a status of the efforts of her team. (Oya is also Co-Charing the University's CommonSpot SIG.) This will be followed with a demo of CommonSpot.
Cancelled: New PCAC group deemed better venue. [Was for March 15, 2005] Public Computing Tips, Tricks, and Challenges Do you manage one or more Windows-based public computers for patron access? Public Computing brings with it a variety of challenges that can be addressed in a variety of ways. Learn and share with others ideas on topics such as security and work-saving techniques. Tools such as Ghost and DeepFreeze will be covered, as well as Registry tips.
May 3, 2005
[New date, as of 4/12/05]
Windows Server Logs
Host: Bill Klinko
Although logging information on Windows systems is fairly simple, mining that data in a meaningful way can be time consuming, especially when monitoring a number of systems. Perhaps you'd like all those logs consolidated to a "master log" that you can search easily for trouble events. Perhaps you'd like to have certain events flagged to notify you when they are recorded. Come to hear how others are managing their logs to maximize efficiency.
May 17, 2005 Techniques for Making Your Web Site More Visible
Host: Greg Lawrence
Presenters include Nate Rupp and Keith Jenkins. Will cover an assortment of techniques for making your web site more visible in Google, at CU, and from within CUL pages. This includes dynamic content (i.e. "deep web"). Will also address making your site's URLs compact, book-markable (persistent), and easy to remember. The new CU policies on domain names will be covered as well.
September 20, 2005 Harvesting Content How do we gather current information for our web sites from other sources at Cornell and elsewhere? What software is available? What do we do with the metadata? How to we address preservation issues?
