Title:   What is Metadata?

Description:  The term "Metadata" has become popular in libraries over the past several years. However, few useful definitions have been offered to explain it. This workshop will introduce and describe the concept of Metadata and provide a variety of concrete examples. Questions addressed will include: What types of Metadata are used in libraries? How does traditional cataloging relate to Metadata? What is the Dublin Core and what is it used for? How are Metadata embedded into Web documents? How are Metadata used in systems like ENCompass?
