Finding Journals

The CU Library Catalog includes records for all journals received by the Cornell University Library in both print and electronic formats. The CU Library Catalog does not include information on the articles within journals. For information on finding journal articles, see Finding articles.

To find a journal in the CU Library Catalog, use one of the following methods:

  1. Use the Basic Search screen and enter the full name of the journal title in the "Search for:" bar (remember to omit any initial articles: a, an, the); also, select the "Search by: Journal Title" option. Journal title abbreviations will generally not be found in the catalog. See 'What is that journal title?' below for help in translating abbreviations into full titles.
  2. OR

  3. Use the Guided Keyword Search screen and enter the ISSN of the journal into the first "Search for:" bar; also, select the "Search in: ISSN/ISBN" option. The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) of a journal is often given in the bibliographic citation of an article.

What is that journal title?
Bibliographic citations will often only provide the abbreviation of the source journal. However, the CU Library Catalog generally requires the full title to locate a journal. Go to JAS (Journal Abbreviation Sources) for resources in translating journal title abbreviations into full titles in different subject areas.
