Using Your Library Account and Bookbag

Your Library Account and Bookbag allow patrons to customize their use of the Cornell University Library catalog. Patrons can:

All three features require patrons to be logged in with their Cornell ID number and last name. To begin using any of these features:


Search Preferences: Use to store your search method preference as a default setting.

  1. Once you are logged in and are on the Patron Info page, click on Preferences in the top menu bar.
  2. Select the Search Type (Basic, Guided Keyword or Course Reserve) you want as a default and every time you click on New Search you will be taken to your selection. The system default is Basic Search.
  3. For Basic Search, also select the Index Type you want as a default. For Course Reserve, also select Instructor, Department, Course, and/or Section for your preferred default setting.
  4. Select the Number of Records to be displayed per page. The system default is 50. You can change it to 25, 75, or 100.
  5. To set preferences, click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
  6. To clear preferences at any time, repeat step 1 and click on the Clear button at the bottom of the page.

Remember to log in every time you want to search the catalog using your preferences.
(Go to the Library Catalog, click on Patron Info, Log In, and start searching by clicking on "New Search." Your preferences will be set until you clear them).

When you log in to use these preferences, always remember to click on LOGOFF or END SESSION when you are finished searching the catalog.


Saved Searches: If you frequently run the same searches on the Catalog, you can now save them and run them on command. The maximum number of searches you can save is 25.



Bookbag: Save up to 1,000 records from various search results for later viewing and/or printing.
