Using Google Scholar to locate Cornell University Library resources
Many of Cornell University's electronic journal holdings can be found using Google Scholar. Users working on campus are automatically recognized by Google Scholar as Cornell users, and a "Get it! Cornell" link is displayed in citations for which Cornell has holdings.
Users working off campus must configure Google Scholar's preferences in order to be recognized as Cornell users. To configure Google Scholar preferences:
- Go to Google Scholar
(http://scholar.google.com/) and click on the Scholar
Preferences link to the right of the search box.
- Type "Cornell" (without quotes) in the Library Links box
and type Enter or click the Find Library
button.
- Save your preferences by clicking the Save Preferences
button.
A Get it! Cornell link will now appear in a citation if Cornell has electronic
holdings for the item.
Please note:
- Google has not indexed all of the library's holdings. To determine whether
the library has an item, use the Library
Catalog.
- For a variety of reasons, some searches will fail even when the Cornell
Library has the item and Google has indexed it. To determine whether the library
has an item, use the Library
Catalog.
- Users clicking on a Google scholar link may be asked for payment even though
the library has a paid subscription. Access subscription resources via the
Library Gateway
or Library Catalog
to avoid unnecessarily paying for access to an item Cornell has already paid
for.
