"Just a few of the things that resulted from my entering the Library's Book Collection Contest: getting to meet fascinating authors, rare book dealers and major collectors; receiving free books, passes to book conventions and exhibitions and a membership in America’s most prestigious book society; a round-trip flight across the country; a party at an exclusive club in New York City; and even strong recommendation for my current employment. And all of that was in addition to the prize money! The contest was a great opportunity to define myself, my passions, and the importance of objects and meaningful gatherings of objects in shaping a point of view toward the world."
