Connecting your laptop to the RedRover wireless network -Macintosh Airport Card

For access to the wireless network, you need:

  1. A wireless card. Most newer Macs support the Airport Card. If you are not using the Airport Card, CIT recommends the Enterasys RoamAbout wireless card. Instructions for setting this up are on CIT's Apple Laptop page.
  2. Software called a driver. This enables your computer to communicate with the wireless card.
To connect to RedRover in the libraries:
  1. From the Apple Menu choose AirPort to open the AirPort configuration application.
  2. Click on the triangle next to Settings to see the options in this section.

  3. airport card image

  4. Click on the arrows to the right of the Choose network field. Select Other... from the list.
  5. A dialog box will display asking for a network name and a password. Enter rover as the name. Leave the password field blank.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the AirPort configuration application.
  8. Next, go to the Apple Menu, to Control Panels, and select TCP/IP.
  9. Make sure that "Connect via:" is set to "AirPort," and that "Configure" is set to "Using DHCP Server".
  10. Close the TCP/IP control panel, saving the changes you just made when prompted.

After you have configured your wireless card, the first time you connect to RedRover you will be asked to register. If the registration window does not open automatically, go to http://wireless-reg.cit.cornell.edu/.
