Connect to the Cornell Library Catalog
The Cornell Library Catalog currently includes all items from all Cornell libraries cataloged since 1973, some pre-1973 items, and items on order or in process. Included in the Cornell Library Catalog are books, periodicals and government documents, as well as some other materials located in the libraries at Cornell. The catalog provides the call number, the name of the library, and the circulation status for most materials.

When to Check Olin's Card Catalogs When the book you need was published before 1973 and it's not in the online Cornell Catalog, check the card catalog located on the lower level of Olin Library (soon to be converted and added to the CU online catalog). This card catalog contains cards for authors, subjects and titles filed in an alphabetical, word-by-word arrangement for books cataloged through December 1972. At the very end of the card catalog is a smaller catalog called the Harris catalog which includes some items published before 1947. Most of these are now found at the Library Annex or at Kroch Rare and Manuscripts.

Other locations can be determined by consulting a librarian or a handout at the Olin Reference desk which provides more detail about the locations that are sometimes indicated in the card catalogs.

Whenever you cannot locate the material you need, ask at the reference desk for assistance.

One or more additional articles follow many author entries, treating specific literary works by that author. Includes bibliographical references and index.

Kindlers neues Literatur Lexikon. Herausgegeben von Walter Jens; [Chefredaktion, Rudolf Radler]. Studienausgabe. 21 vols. München: Kindler, [1996?], c1988. (Olin Ref PN44 K51 1996)

Literaturlexikon: Autoren und Werke deutscher Sprache. Herausgegeben von Walther Killy ; unter Mitarbeit von Hans Fromm ... [et al.] ; beratende Mitwirkung und Bildkonzeption Helmut Kindler. München : Bertelsmann Lexikon Verlag, 1988-1993. 15 v. (Olin Ref PT41 L77)

The Companion's historical coverage and depth of information--on subjects as various as Kafka and Kleist, Werther and Christa Wolf, Nietzsche and the Nibelungenlied, Jung and Jelinek, Rilke and Die Reformation--makes it a useful reference book for everyone with an interest in the literature and literary culture of the German-speaking world.

Berlin; New York: De Gruyter, 1997- [3., neubearb. Aufl.] (Olin Ref PT41 R28 1997)

EndNote allows you to build your own database of bibliographic references from a variety of resources, including library catalogs and periodical indexes. EndNote interfaces with several standard word processing programs and provides direct connections to resources, making it easy to import references and incorporate them in your writing. EndNote (or one of its peers such as ProCite) are highly recommended for researchers. EndNote workshops are regulary held on campus.
