  Contains the text of selected documents concerned with human rights. Included are contributions from conventions sponsored by the United Nations, the International Labor Organization, and various European conventions. There are specific chapters, as well, on developments in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The Table of Contents lists all documents included. Coverage begins in 1939.

• Bibliography of Asian Studies. 1971 - .
  

  The online version of the Bibliography of Asian studies ( BAS ) contains more than 410,000 records on all subjects (especially humanities and social sciences) pertaining to East, Southeast and South Asia published worldwide from 1971 to the present. Through the 1991 printed version, the BAS included citations to western-language periodical articles, individually authored monographs, chapters in edited volumes, conference proceedings, anthologies, and Festschriften, etc. Since 1992, newly published individual monographs are no longer being added to the database, and users seeking monographs are urged to consult other general resources and databases (such as RLIN, OCLC, etc.). Available in print in Kroch Asia Reference (1947 - ) [+ Z 300l F2].

  Provides discussion of all of Latin America and the Caribbean within 6 topical sections: Physical environment, The economy, The peoples, History, Politics and Society, Culture.

• Defense and Foreign Affairs Handbook . 1976/77 - . [OLIN REF + UA 10 D31]

  An annual volume, arranged by country, that gives information on the history, defense structure, weapons, and the major news media of each country. There are some special sections which report on arms transfers, standard prices for certain arms types of weapons and the companies that produce them. Claims to provide political, economic and defense data on every country, colony and territory in the world. Also includes a select bibliography for the year.

• Encyclopedia of Heads of States and Governments: 1900 through 1945 . 1999. [OLIN REF D 412 L45x 1999]

• Encyclopedia of Human Rights . 2nd ed. 1996.[OLIN REF + JC 571 E61 1996]

  A major work providing an overview of human rights concepts, activities of international organizations, and practices in 150 countries. Includes a glossary of human rights terms and lists of instruments and other documents.

  Although cumbersome to use, this is one of the few sources that indexes publications of the European Union.

  Collected and translated articles from the following regions of the world: Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Eurasia, China, East Europe, Middle East/Africa, East Asia, Near East/South Asia, Soviet Union, and West Europe. Indexed from 1977-1996 on CD-ROM by Index to the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS)daily reports [OLIN REF Disk Z7163 F712]. The printed editions and the CD-ROM indes have ceased publication. Current FBIS reports are available on a CD-ROM in the Electronic Text Center, Olin Reference. For networked, online access, use World News Connection (WNC).

  An excellent guide for identifying information about a given country published by numerous IGOs.

• Guide to Official Publications of Foreign Countries . 2nd ed. 1997. [OLIN REF Z 7164 G7 G94 1997]

  An excellent starting place for anyone researching the government publications of countries around the world. Helps identify what are the official publications of a particular country before attempting to locate them in the library.

• A Guide to the Official Publications of the European Communities . 2nd ed. 1981. [OLIN REF Z 7165 E8 J47 1981]

  As well as listing recent documents published by the various agencies of the European Communities, this guide provides clear, concise explanations of the history of the organization and of all of its subsidiary parts. In addition, the Guide describes in detail the publication commitments required of the Communities in different areas (i.e. Demography, Economics, Energy). Although much of the material listed is in Western languages there is a substantial amount of English language material as well.

• Handbook of Latin American Studies. 1936 - .

  An extensive online bibliography of material relating to Latin America. Also available in print in Olin Reference (Z 1605 H23). Since 1964, volumes for the Humanities (art, film, history, language, literature, music, and philosophy) and the Social Sciences (anthropology, economics, education, film, geography, government and politics, international relations, and sociology) have been published in alternate years. Each volume also contains special articles on particular phases of life and culture and inter-American relations.

• Historical Abstracts. 1954 - .

  Indexes and abstracts national, regional, and international journals, book and media reviews, dissertations, and books covering all branches of world history from 1450 to the present. Includes materials from archival, library, and historical society collections.

• Human Rights in Western Civilization: 1600-present . 2nd ed. 1994. [URIS REF K 3240.6 H8785x 1994]

• Kodansha Encyclopedia of Japan . 9 vols. plus supplement. 1983-1986. [URIS REF + DS 805 K76; also Kroch Asia Ref]

  The first comprehensive encyclopedia about Japan in English. Over 9,000 entries cover philosophy, history, science, politics, economics, literature and the arts, food and clothing from both a historical and a contemporary perspective. It should be the single most useful source on Japan for the non Japanese reader.

• Latin America and Caribbean Contemporary Record. 1981/82 - . annual. [OLIN REF F 1401 L35835]

  Contains State-of-Affairs Reviews by country as well as chapters (e.g. Arms control, external debt, etc.), on topics important to the area. Statistical profiles.

• The Middle East: Abstracts and Index . 1978 - . [OLIN REF + DS 41 M623]

  An index to materials on the Middle East drawn from journals, dissertations, government documents, statistics, book reviews, speeches and more. Most of the material is on contemporary topics. Beginning with 1979 foreign language material has been included, but coverage is still primarily English.

• Political Handbook of the World. 1975 - . annual. [OLIN REF + JF 37 P76; also Uris Ref]

  Contains political "data" on numerous regions and countries of the world, including a brief description of the area, the political background, a summary of the constitution, the foreign relations, and current issues. Also describes the major political parties, the legislature, cabinet, news media, and intergovernmental representation.

• Statesman's Year-Book: Statistical and Historical Annual of the States of the World . 1864 - . annual. [OLIN REF JA 51 S79; also Uris Ref]

  A manual of concise, reliable data about the governments of the world with information concerning the constitution and government, economic conditions, education, religion, defenses, agriculture, commerce, etc. The lists of statistical and other books of reference given for each country are often very helpful.

• World Human Rights Guide . 3d ed. 1992. [OLIN REF JC 571 H936 1992]

  Provides evaluative comparisons of the human rights situation in 104 countries, based on guidelines set in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and various UN treaties.

• Access UN. 1966- .

  Provides access to current and retrospective United Nations documents and publications. Updated monthly.

• The Arms Control Reporter . 1982 - . [OLIN REF JX 1974.7 A73]

  A chronicle of treaties, negotiations, and proposals.

• Basic Documents in International Law . 1995. [OLIN REF JX 68 B88 1995]

• Encyclopedia of Arms Control and Disarmament . 3 vols. 1993. [URIS REF JX 1974 E56]

  Seventy-six original, signed essays discuss not only arms control in specific countries but also treat the historical dimensions from the ancient world to the present. Volume three is a collection of the texts of disarmament treaties over the centuries. Articles are followed by bibliographies listing additional sources for further research. An excellent background reference for this subject at the intersection of politics and technology.

• The Encyclopedia of the United Nations and International Relations . 2nd ed. 1990. [OLIN REF + JX 1977 O83 1990]

  A single volume compendium of political, economic, and social information. It provides data on the structure of the United Nations, its specialized agencies, and many intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations. Explanations of widely used political, economic, military, geographical and sociological terms are included. Also contains entries on several thousand international agreements, conventions, and treaties.

• Foreign Affairs Bibliography: A Selected and Annotated List of Books on International Relations. 1919 - 1972. decennial [ceased in 1972] [OLIN REF + Z 6463 F71]

  Covers post World War I materials. Each volume is divided into three major sections: General International Relations, The World Since 1914, and The World by Regions. There is also a fifty-year review of the literature: The Foreign Affairs 50-Year Bibliography (1920-1970) [OLIN REF + Z 6463 F72] providing additional sources of information.

  This collection of treaties is arranged chronologically from the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648 to the Tashkent Peace Treaty between India and Pakistan in 1966. Each section has a historical commentary preceding it. The fifth volume, added to the series in 1980 -- Major Peace Treaties of Modern History, 1967-1979 -- adds another decade of coverage.

  This monthly service regularly abstracts more than 250 periodicals as well as books. Its scope includes not only publications on peace, but also those on disarmament and international relations.

• Treaties and Alliances of the World . 6th ed. 1995 [OLIN REF + JX 4005 T78 1995]

  The main emphasis of this source is on the most important treaties in force between 1945 and 1994. Concise summaries of the treaties are often followed by excerpts from the original documents.

• Treaties in Force: a list of treaties and other international acts of the United States in force on... . 1944 - . annual. [OLIN REF + JX 235.9 A33]

  Published by the US Department of State. Lists treaties to which the US is a party. Divided into two parts: (1) bilateral treaties and other agreements, listed by country or entity; (2) multilateral treaties, arranged by subject, together with a list of the states which are parties to each agreement. Since this listing is only current as of January in the year published, it should be updated with the US Department of State Bulletin [OLIN STACKS + JX 232 A33].

  The official homepage for the UN, and a good link to numerous documents available full text online.

• Yearbook of International Organizations/Annvaire des Organisations Internationales . 1948- . [OLIN REF JZ 1163 E93 1998]

  Summarizes the activities, proceedings, and decisions of the UN. Also includes texts of important resolutions.

• L'Année Philologique . 1924/26 - . [OLIN Z 7016 A61: Room 605]

  Published annually, it includes citations (in all languages) to books, articles, collections of essays and reviews. It is divided into two parts. Part I covers classical authors and textual criticism (arranged alphabetically by ancient author). Part II is divided into subjects (philosophy, linguistics, history), subdivided chronologically then alphabetically, by the author of the book or article. A rich resource for political theory. Also available on CD-ROM in Olin Reference as The Database of Classical Bibliography: DCB [Disk Z 7016 D23].

  A guide to major ideas and philosophies of leading theorists in the field of political science, past and present. Entries contain references to the important works of individuals and include bibliographic references.
