For each language or dialect listed here (sometimes qualified by the language group or geographic area to which it belongs) the appropriate Library of Congress subject classification is given. Many cross-references are provided. While it is designed for use by cataloging librarians, students doing research on a language or dialect might find this useful for determining the subject classification or subject heading used by the Library of Congress, but should not consider the language group or geographic qualifiers as definitive.

The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy
<http:/www.utm.edu/research/iep/>
The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (http:/www.utm.edu/research/iep/)is not yet competitive
with its print counterparts, either in comprehensiveness or depth, but it is useful, convenient and accurate. It also begins to show the potential of Internet reference works, in that it is at least sporadically updated, presents some competing views and allows full-text searching of entries with relevance ranking of search results. Some of the potential is missed in the current version: there should be consistent application of hyperlinks (active cross-references), but this will come. The 227 articles are often derived from print sources, although more original entries have been added. Authority is also a problem as the original source is not identified, nor are the original authors named. It's certainly worth a look but it isn't a substitute for any good print encyclopedia.
