ENGLISH LITERARY PERIODICALS

Film English literary periodicals, 17th, 18th, 19th centuries.
Ann Arbor, University Microfilms, 1951-. Separately cataloged.

Scope:

The English Literary Periodicals series consists of the texts of periodicals published in Great Britain during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. The microfilm set is based on a bibliography compiled by Professor Richmond Bond of the Uni versity of North Carolina.

Titles in the collection include a variety of types of literary periodicals. There are literary reviews; miscellanies offering essays, book reviews, poetry, and articles on diverse con- temporary cultural subjects; magazines devoted solely to poetry, theatre, humor, politics, religion, or to a specific audience. Defoe, Addison, Steele, Goldsmith, Johnson, Mill, Hunt, Lamb, Tennyson, and George Eliot are among the important authors of this era who are represented in the collection either as writers or editors.

Cornell does not have the complete series but does hold about two-thirds of the available titles. Titles held can be determined by consulting the card catalog.
