CISER Data Archive
Notes from the Workshop on 10/27/2004

Geared to the statistical research needs of faculty, research staff, and graduate students, the CISER Data Archive consists of raw data (as opposed to tabulated data), the documentation needed to interpret the data, and software for analyzing the data. For an example of the type of raw data available at CISER, see:

Data Archive Tutorial -- What do the files look like?

As a rule, undergraduates should not be directed to CISER for statistical data (exceptions are sometimes made for honor students with specific needs for the data -- usually referred by a faculty member -- or undergraduate research assistants working closely with Faculty).

Undergraduates who need help with various statisical software packages may be directed to the Office of Statistical Consulting in the College of Human Ecology (not part of CISER).

See the Office of Statistical Consulting web page for services offered and hours available for Walk-in Appointments. The Office of Statistical Consulting also offers workshops. Pam Baxter recommends the Basic Data Analysis course.

"This service allows Cornellians to download data directly from links in the ICPSR catalog of holdings. When using ICPSR Direct for the first time, you will provide your name, Cornell affiliation, department, and e-mail address. After registering, you may obtain data by entering your e-mail address and using a Cornell IP address. Access to off-campus Cornell users is provided by the Cornell University Find Databases function; follow the link from this page. Most of ICPSR's data are in ascii format, have machine-readable documentation, and many--but not all--have SAS and SPSS input programs.

You may not redistribute ICPSR data to those outside Cornell University. By downloading and using ICPSR data, you acknowledge and accept the ICPSR terms of use."
